Brightness sells this LCD - Samsung LN52A650 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color
Some background: I’ve owned a plasma for 5 years. I’ve loathed LCDs ever since I’ve had a plasma. When I went out to look for a new TV, I was focused on getting another plasma. I went to a couple of local stores, and found that this Samsung LCD was just so bright. It was much brighter than any plasma, and the blacks were blacker as well (because of the added contrast). So if you’re worried that this LCD can’t possibly compete with a plasma, let me reassure you of it’s torch brightness, and very BLACK blacks.

Splendid TV, Long Review - Samsung LN52A750 52-Inch 1080p DLNA LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color
Pros:
- HD Picture Quality: As I say below, this is my first LCD TV, but I’ve seen many in my years and the PQ is excellent, especially considering the price. The blacks look great, the colors pop, and once I played with the picture settings, it looked even better
- SD Picture Quality: For a 52″ LCD the standard definition picture is very good. While obviously not as good a CRT or a non-HD-LCD, it still is excellent.
- No issues (at least on mine) with clouding, mura, banding, pillaring, etc
- Viewing angle is excellent
- Look of the bezel
- Glossy screen isn’t as reflective as my old CRT
- Lots of picture adjustments
- General connectivity (DNLA, Wiselink, Infolink, etc)
Cons:
- Only one HDMI input that does anything by switching it to PC
- Remote and more importantly the remote UI is poorly conceived. Example: No button for changing AMP settings, and getting to PIP is convoluted.
- A lot of the picture adjustments are limited to certain input types and/or modes
- Bezel is very easy to scratch
- DNLA limits on codecs allowed
- No wireless DNLA
- Auto energy-saving setting needs a little work

Simply Amazing - Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color
I just got my TV last Friday and it is everything that I have expected. Unlike the first reviewer on this site, I have not experienced the overheating issues (fingers crossed). If you read his review he did admit the TV was great until that started happening. I just hope I don’t get the same issue.
On to my review:
I spent over a year and a half researching flat panels. I came close to purchasing a Samsung 71F series, but when the salesman told me that new 2008 models were coming out in March, I decided to hold and do more research on those models. I almost purchased the 5 series, but when I found out that it does not have 120hz refresher rate, I decided to research the 6 series and ended buying the 46A650.

Beautiful TV! From the picture to the bezel, just perfect. - Samsung LN52A650 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color
I’ve had this TV since very early March. I’ve watched HD, SD and Blu-Ray and can not find a flaw. The 650 handles motion extremely well to where blurring and other artifacts are vitually non-existant. The AMP is a very cool feature that brings a realism to film making it seem more life-like, or as if it were originally shot on HD Video. Some have said this gives off a “soap opera” effect. I can see that description, but to me it makes film based DVD’s and movies look more like your watching a real-life play, viewing it through a window. It’s a very cool effect!
I understand people’s concern’s with the glossy screens found on plasma and some LCD’s. This screen is slightly less reflective than Samsung’s 71 series but can still be a problem for some. It would be nice if there was an easy solution for this but there’s not. Sony and other makers use a matte type of screen that certainly helps or eliminates the problem but introduces other negatives. I find colors and blacks just don’t “pop” on matte screens and tend to wash out more for off-angle viewing. The 650 has a picture with great depth and color from any angle, greatly adding to the immersion effect.
